Better with age. I hope this is true. I hope that the songs I’m writing now are better than the songs I wrote in high school, when I first started writing. I know I’ve gained a lot of knowledge about music since then. I’ve written lots of songs and have had plenty of practice. So I will cling to that hope, and let my listeners decide for themselves.
Better With Age reflects my jazz influence, as opposed to the majority of songs I’ve written, which sound more like rock, pop, and maybe alternative music. I originally came to Kansas City to play jazz. I still perform with my jazz trio occasionally, and really enjoy it. I also feel that jazz standards are some of the most beautiful songs ever written.
I’m a big fan of vocal jazz. Some of my favorites include Nat King Cole, Mose Allison, Kurt Elling, and Karrin Allyson.
This is an acoustic, solo version. I may eventually record this one with jazz trio.
